Click the picture to see additional photos 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais Quad442/W41 The W-41 refers to both the car and the engine. W-41 the engine was developed by the engineers at Oldsmobile to win the SCCA and IMSA Race series that Oldsmobile was competing in with their Calais cars. The W-41 was only available in Oldsmobiles. The features unique to the W-41 Engine are the intake & exhaust camshafts, a special red IDI cover that read "Made for the exclusive use of Oldsmobile by General Motors” an E-Prom chip for the computer, and a special 3.94 transaxle that was always used in conjunction with the W-41 engine. The first car to feature the W-41 was the 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais Quad 442 W-41. This car was developed to showcase the ultimate potential of a normally aspirated Quad 4 and to win in the SCCA and IMSA race series. Oldsmobile made 204 of these cars including 7 C-41 Non AC cars hand built from bodies in white for race duty. Features of this car that separated it from the regular W-40 Quad 442 included: The W-41 Engine, Getrag 3.94 Transaxle, Antilock Brakes, Low Restriction W-41 only Muffler, Silver stripes, Silver W-41 Decals, Silver powder coated 5 spoke 14" wheels with Silver Center Caps, All production W-41’s were exactly the same. They featured silver interiors with manual windows and door locks, AM FM Cassette Stereo, 5 Speed Manual Transmission, Cruise Control, ABS, 3.94 Transaxle.
